Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a trauma‑focused, neuroscience‑informed approach that helps your brain process distressing memories, sensations, and emotions without having to relive them. It’s fast, it’s gentle, and it works with the natural healing pathways your brain already has — the ones that get blocked by trauma, chronic stress, and chronic illness.

What ART Helps With

ART can be especially supportive for people navigating:

  • Medical trauma

  • Chronic illness–related fear and overwhelm

  • Needle phobia and other medical phobias

  • Trauma memories that won’t let go

  • Difficult‑to‑shift behaviors or emotional patterns

  • Anxiety, panic, and fear responses

  • Grief, identity shifts, and emotional stuck points

  • Distressing images, sensations, or memories stored in the body

ART is gentle enough for people with chronic illness and dynamic disability, and powerful enough to create meaningful shifts without retraumatization.

How ART Works

ART uses guided eye movements or bilateral beats and imagery to help your brain reprocess what’s stuck. You stay fully in control the entire time. You don’t have to share details you don’t want to share. You don’t have to “get it right.” Your brain does the work for you.

A typical ART session may include:

  • guided eye movements

  • noticing body sensations

  • visualizing the memory or emotion in a safe, supported way

  • replacing distressing images with ones that feel neutral or empowering

  • reducing the emotional charge of painful memories

  • grounding and integration

Most people describe ART as calming, surprising, and easier than they expected.

Why ART Is a Good Fit for Chronic Illness

Chronic illness often comes with layers of trauma — medical trauma, dismissal, fear, grief, and the constant bracing your body learns to do just to get through the day.

ART can help with:

  • fear of medical procedures

  • trauma from being dismissed or gaslit

  • anxiety around symptoms or flare cycles

  • grief around identity and loss

  • emotional overwhelm

  • phobias that make medical care difficult

  • the “stuckness” that comes from years of invalidation

ART doesn’t fix illness. But it can help your nervous system soften, settle, and breathe again.

My Approach to ART

I use ART in a way that is:

  • GentleWe move slowly and check in often. Nothing is forced.

  • Collaborative: You decide what we work on and how far we go.

  • Disability‑Affirming: Your body sets the pace. We adapt the process to your energy, symptoms, and needs.

  • Trauma‑Informed: Your nervous system’s safety comes first — always.

  • Flexible: ART can be a stand‑alone session or woven into ongoing therapy.

What ART Can Help You Move Through

  • A traumatic medical appointment

  • A diagnosis moment you can’t shake

  • A procedure that left you terrified

  • A phobia that’s getting in the way of care

  • A memory that keeps replaying

  • A feeling you can’t name but can’t escape

  • A behavior or emotional pattern that feels stuck

  • Grief that sits heavy in your body

ART gives your brain a new way to hold the story — one that feels lighter, safer, and more manageable.
